I've gotten more from volunteering at University Medical Center than I did from all my years of working. I've really enjoyed the chance to help so many people in this very special way.

Volunteering at Stony Brook University Medical Center is an enjoyable and rewarding experience. Volunteering provides the opportunity to open one's life to many exciting experiences. 

Each year, more than 350 volunteers share their time and talents in almost every department of the medical center. Most volunteers find deep satisfaction in helping to care for those who must spend time in a hospital.

A strong commitment to excellence in patient care, teamwork, and community service allows the Stony Brook University Medical Center to offer a fine array of programs and services to the residents of Long Island.

Volunteer assignments are available seven days a week between the hours of 7 am and 8:30 pm.

 
Our Volunteers

University Medical Center volunteers are people like you who have a sincere desire to be of service, a healthy sense of curiosity, and a willingness to work under supervision. No special skills or experience is required.

In addition to helping care for our patients, volunteers greet visitors at the reception desk, staff the University Medical Center Auxiliary's gift and thrift shops, and assist with a variety of clerical duties in various departments throughout the medical center.

Each volunteer assignment is specially tailored to match the needs of the medical center with the schedule, abilities, and interests of the volunteer.

Men and women, ages 18 and over, who are willing to donate three hours a week for at least eight months may become University Medical Center volunteers.

It's great to see the patients smile when you bring them flowers. I like to make other people happy. Volunteering at University Medical Center is great. I feel like I have a really fun family here.

Junior Volunteers

UniversityMedical Center's Junior Volunteer Program offers young men and women between the ages of 14 and 17 a chance to serve their community while they explore career options. Junior volunteers must obtain parental consent.
