Urology
Stony Brook Urology is the clinical practice of the Department of Urology at Stony Brook University Medical Center (SBUMC). In the latest issue of "America's Best Hospitals," U.S. News & World Report (August, 2009) ranked the Department of Urology at Stony Brook University Medical Center among the top best in the nation. This ranking is based on reputation, mortality index, as well as the level of care provided in a hospital setting. As such, our practice is committed to fulfilling Stony Brook's Mission of Excellence in patient care, education, research, and community service. The Department of Urology is dedicated to maintaining excellence in resident training, educational programs, health professional teaching and the highest level of patient care.
The mission of the Stony Brook Urology, PC, is to provide sophisticated care for the widest variety of general and tertiary urological problems. Our full time faculty now comprises the largest urology group in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Stony Brook Urology faculty members are board eligible/certified and the majority have received fellowship training at elite institutions. Our team of urologists offers a wide variety of urological care and our team of Urologists includes specialists in Oncological Urology, Robotics and Minimally Invasive Surgery, Laparoscopy, Endourology/Stone Disease, Prostate Disease (BPH), Reconstructive Surgery, Pediatric Urology, Female Urology/Voiding Dysfunction, Male Infertility, Sexual Dysfunction and Renal Transplantation.
Stony Brook Urology provides outpatient consultations and treatment at our satellite offices in Stony Brook University Medical Center Cancer Center, Technology Park in East Setauket, Patchogue Primary Care Center, and Hampton Bays Life Care Center. The department recognizes a special obligation to care for children, the elderly and disabled individuals within our community. We are actively involved in community outreach events, including distributing educational materials on urological conditions, organizing conferences for community physicians and other health care professionals. Our Prostate Care Program conducts free cancer screenings each month in our satellite offices and sponsors/participates in local community cancer awareness events. Stony Brook Urology is committed to providing excellence in Urological care to our patients throughout Long Island.

The Department of Urology at Stony Brook University Medical Center is chaired by Dr. Wayne Waltzer, who was part of the original team that performed the first kidney transplant on Long Island 25 years ago.
