  • Dean Frances L. Brisbane received a Community Service Recognition Award from the First Baptist Church of Riverhead’s Family Community Life Center. This is the Center’s Inaugural Community Service Recognition and Hall of Fame Gala, 2011.
  • Dr. Pamela Linden is this year’s Suffolk County Chapter of NASW Social Worker of the Year Award, 2011
  • Dr. Kathleen Monahan received the 2011 Woman Achiever Award from the Suffolk County Coalition Against Domestic Violence, 2011.
  • Dr. Carolyn Peabody received a "Distinguished Community Service Award" at the 5th Annual Community Service Stony Brook University Awards Ceremony, 2011.

  • The School of Social Welfare, supported by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation has produced a documentary DVD and companion guide: “Dr. Dorothy I. Height: Wisdom and Ways to Care” (2011).
  • Dr. Shelly Cohen, CWTP Senior Research Specialist, was re-elected to a 4-year term on the Board of Directors of the New York Association of Drug Treatment Court Professionals, 2011.

  • Dr. R. Anna Hayward and Bob Marmo will present at the 2012 Annual Conference of the Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR) to be held in Washington, DC from January 11-15, 2012. The title is “Understanding the Suburban Gang Population: Key Characteristics of Members Involved In the Criminal Justice System.” 
  • Dr. Richard Morgan presented at The Oxford Round Table on Immigration held at Oxford University, Lincoln College, from 3/27-4/1/11.  The title of his paper was: "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness: Human Rights and Immigration."
  • Dr. Fuhua Zhai will have three presentations at the 33rd Annual Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM) Research Conference, Nov. 2011, Washington, D.C.: 1) Zhai, F., Waldfogel, J., & Brooks-Gunn, J., Can high-quality child care programs boost school readiness in the South: Evidence from a birth cohort study in five states; 2) Zhai, F., & Raver, C.   • Dr. Fuhua Zhai presented at the 2011 Biennial Meeting for the Society for Research in Child Development (SRCD) in Montreal, Canada, between March 30 and April 2, 2011. He had two presentations and was also invited to discuss a paper symposium with three papers: 1) a paper with Jane Waldfogel and Jeanne Brooks-Gunn at Columbia University: Effects of Head Start on Child and Family Outcomes: Evidence From a Birth Cohort Study in Large U.S. Cities; 2) a paper with C. Cybele Raver at New York University and Qin Gao at Fordham University: Classroom-Based Interventions and Children's Subsequent School Experiences: Findings From a Cluster-Randomized Controlled Trial; and 3) Discussion of a paper symposium (with three papers): Applications of Recent Advances in Propensity Score Methodology

Awards

  • Daniel Callahan, a 2nd year MSW student, won an award for conducting an "Outstanding Community Service Project" this past March - The first annual Vigil of Hope. This award was given at The 5th Community Service Stony Brook University Awards Ceremony, 2011.
  • Stephanie Jarrett, a 2nd year MSW students won the Student of the Year award from the Suffolk County Chapter of NASW, 2011.
  • Jose Wilson Montoya, a 1st year students was awarded a scholarship by the National Association of Puerto Rican and Hispanic Social Workers, 2011.
  • Danielle Prugar, an Undergraduate Junior, wrote an essay for which she won a scholarship from the Suffolk County Chapter of NASW, 2011.
