| The third year consists of the core clerkships listed above and 4 weeks of elective time, or a total of 48 weeks.
The 4 weeks of Elective
time are required. The elective weeks are taken either before or after the Psychiatry clerkship. Only one 4 week period can be used for electives. Third year electives are taken at Stony Brook, Winthrop, NUMC or the Northport VAMC. You must meet the pre-requisite requirement before you take an elective. The pre-requisites are listed in the elective course descriptions. There are no pre-requisite requirements for the Radiology and Emergency Medicine rotations so they can be taken any time they are offered. Neurology, also a requirement for graduation, can also be taken during the 3rd year elective weeks. The Neurology department will set up the clerkship during your elective time period, whenever it occurs. Contact Doris Boehle at 444-7878 or Doris.Boehle@stonybrook.edu for Neurology. Six (6) weeks of clinical work must be completed at the Stony Brook University Medical Center and can be done during either third or fourth year.
