Linda Cocchiarella MD, MSc is a board certified physician in both occupational medicine and internal medicine. She is a clinician, author and medical director of the Long Island Occupational and Environmental Health Center (LIOEHC). LIOEHC is the only New York State Department of Health funded and designated occupational health center on Long Island.
Dr. Cocchiarella has served as a consultant to the American Medical Association (AMA), medical societies, state officials, physicians, attorneys, and businesses on impairment and disability issues, including AMA Guides interpretation and application. She is the Editor, Co-author and leading authority on the nationally recognized AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, Fifth Edition. She is also the author of two other widely referenced AMA books: Master the AMA Guides Fifth, A Medical and Legal Transition to the Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, Fifth Edition, and The Practical Guide to Range of Motion Assessment. She was a reviewer and advisor for the 6th edition of the AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment.
Dr. Cocchiarella’s interests include impairment and disability assessment, independent medical evaluations, causation determination, workers compensation and disability management, workplace wellness promotion, and educational program development.
Dr. Cocchiarella holds a B.Sc. with Distinction from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, an M.D. from Northwestern University Medical School and a M.Sc. in Epidemiology from The Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health. She completed residencies in both internal and occupational medicine and is certified to practice acupuncture. She completed a Fellowship in Toxicology and Risk Assessment with the Centers for Disease and is a certified wellness program manager by the National Wellness Institute – WebMD Worksite Wellness Certification Program.
