Barbados National Cancer Study (BCNS)

Aim : To conduct the first comprehensive epidemiologic/genetic study to evaluate environmental and familial factors related to prostate and breast cancer risk in Barbados.

Overview : The BNCS includes a population-based case-control study that will enroll all incident cases of prostate and breast cancer in the country, along with age-sex matched population controls.  In addition, a family-study component will seek to identify and examine eligible relatives of probands with prostate or breast cancer with a family history of such cancers. The ultimate goal is to use the information to better understand and address these major problems among persons of African descent.
