Each resident is evaluated on a monthly basis by the faculty on the service that he/she just rotated on. These evaluations are sent to the residents through a secure web-based system for their review. The evaluations provide the residents with feedback and assist them in identifying strengths and weaknesses in a consistent and timely manner.
In order to provide a more well-rounded evaluation of the residents, evaluations are also completed by nurse practitioners, nursing staff, and other residents. Twice a year the residents receive evaluations by patients in the continuity clinic setting. These additional evaluations enable better assessment of professionalism and communication skills.
Evaluations are reviewed with the resident by their faculty advisor and the residency program Division Chief at least twice a year.
Each July the residents take the American Board of Pediatrics In-Training Examination. This is like a mini-Board examination. The results are used only to help guide the resident’s study plans, to move them forward toward eventually passing the board examination.
