MOLECULAR / NEUROBIOLOGY

Marian Evinger, Ph.D.
Nicotine-Mediated Regulation of Adrenergic Gene Expression
This project tests the hypothesis that a previously uncharacterized nuclear protein coordinately establishes control of PNMT gene expression in response to nicotinic stimuli.  The goals of this project are to identify and isolate cDNAs for transacting proteins that mediate responsiveness to nicotinic stimuli.  Structural and functional attributes of the the PNMT nicotine response element binding protein will be characterized.
Principal Investigator:  Marian J. Evinger, Ph.D.
Agency: Philip Morris USA and Philip Morris International.

Molecular Profile of Developmental Factors in Medulloblastoma
The objective of this project is to define a molecular profile of transcription factors useful for differential diagnosis of medulloblastoma .  Quantitative real time PCR is employed to assess expression of candidate genes in human medulloblastoma tumors and cell lines.  Medulloblastoma-specific gene expression is further delineated by DNA microarray analyses of tumor and normal cerebellar RNAs.
Principal Investigator:  Marian J. Evinger, Ph.D. (Co-Investigator, R. Seidman, M.D,)
Agency: Pediatric Oncology Targeted Research Opportunity, Stony Brook University School of Medicine

Nicotinic Regulation of Neural Gene Expression
This project delineates the mechanism of transcriptional activation by the Nicotine Response Element Binding Protein, ascertains intracellular signaling pathways, and examines the transcriptional profile of nicotinic stimulation of neural gene expression profiles.
