The NICU at Stony Brook University Medical Center understands that having a critically-ill newborn is an extremely difficult time for families.  We offer a “family-centered” care environment with liberal visiting hours and encourage you to participate in your child’s care.  The nursing, physical therapy, social work and care coordination staff will all assist you with preparing for your newborn’s discharge from the hospital, ensuring you fell comfortable caring for your infant’s medical needs before you go home.

To ensure your infant gets the best care, our NICU is the only unit in the region in which a senior, faculty physician is available in the hosptial to assess your newborn immediately after birth.

If your child is currently in another newborn medical facility, and you would like your infant to be cared for by our physicians, we can work with your current hospital to facilitate a transfer, usually in less than 12 hours.  For extremely sick infants, we are only 1 of 2 facilities from Westchester to Montauk to offer expedited transport by helicopter if medically required.  Simply tell your current doctors you request a transfer to Stony Brook University’s neonatal intensive care unit or simply call 631-444-2001.
