The Division of Gastroenterology and Nutrition offers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services and provides long-term care for gastrointestinal, liver and nutritional disorders in children from infancy through adolescence. We are a multidisciplinary group of clinicians (physicians, nurse practitioners, and nutritionists) committed to delivering quality collaborative care and education to children and families, to maintain wellness or to care for the critically ill requiring diagnosis, treatment or ongoing care for a broad spectrum of disorders of the gastrointestinal tract.
Gastrointestinal conditions: Gastroesophageal reflux, acute and chronic diarrhea, constipation, cyclic vomiting, recurrent abdominal pain, Crohn Disease/Ulcerative Colitis, peptic ulcer disease, and celiac disease. For more information regarding the , please click here for our brochure.
Liver Diseases: Pancreatic disorders, neonatal jaundice, biliary atresia, acute and chronic hepatitis, childhood cirrhosis, portal hypertension
Nutritional Disorders: Failure to thrive, feeding disorders, obesity, malabsorption, celiac disease (gluten intolerance)
We provide specialized care for those patients with developmental disabilities requiring long term nutritional care including those requiring home nasogastric feeds, gastrostomy feeds, total parenteral nutritional regimens.
We provide specialized services for children and their families with sedation provided by pediatric anesthesiologists for the following procedures: esophagoscopy and esophagogastroduodenoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy, endoscopic polypectomy, liver biopsy, rectal biopsy, breath analysis for detecting carbohydrate malabsorption and bacterial overgrowth, 24 hour pH probe study, esophageal dilatation, endoscopic variceal sclerosis, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG).
Every effort is made to maximize the comfort of our young patients, and special effort is made to ease the fears of our young patients in need of these procedures.
