The Division of Endocrinology provides consultation services for children who are referred by their primary physicians for evaluation and on going care for children with growth and endocrine disorders. Three Pediatric Endocrinologists on the faculty at Stony Brook University Medical Center, one Nurse Practitioner, two or three Fellows, and a Nutritionist are available.
New patients are advised to bring copies of pertinent laboratory tests, x-rays, MRIs and prior height and weight measurements to avoid unnecessary duplication of tests or delays in diagnosis and treatment. Patients should be sure to check with their primary physician that a referral has been sent. New patients should allow ample time (several hours) for a complete initial evaluation.
The Division works within the context of a teaching hospital and medical school. Therefore, patients will often be seen initially by a resident or medical student who will do the initial history and physical examination before being seen by an attending Endocrinologist.
