FACULTY RECRUITMENT: Dr. ANGELIQUE CORTHALS
Dr. Angelique Corthals has joined our department as Assistant Professor and Scientific Director of Stony Brook Medicine's BioBank (ex-Tissue Bank). She has over 15 years of experience as Principal Investigator in research projects investigating the molecular, genetic and epigenetic aspects of both infectious and auto-immune diseases in historical and contemporary human populations, genetic resources in the context of conservation and evolutionary biology, as well as the relation between morphology and molecules in skeletal pathology in the context of forensic anthropology.
Dr. Corthals earned her PhD at the University of Oxford and has worked for six years at the American Museum of Natural History, where she founded the collection for Molecular and Microbial research with Drs. Desalle and Hanner. She has held faculty positions at the Life Sciences Department, University of Manchester, Sciences Department, CUNY John Jay College of Criminal Justice and the Department of Anthropology at Stony Brook University.
