Welcome
FACULTY RECRUITMENT: DR. HAOJIE HUANG
Welcome to the Department of Pathology at Stony Brook University Medical Center. I hope that your exploration of this website will highlight our achievements in medical education, basic and translational research, and in diagnostic service. These pages also include important information related to our residency training programs in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.
The department has been privileged to include many national leaders in academic pathology, including Dr. Upton, Dr. Kuschner, Dr. Lauren Ackerman (author and founding editor of Ackerman's Surgical Pathology), Dr. Jorge Benach (discoverer of the etiologic agent of Lyme Disease), Dr. Cynthia Kaplan (2009-2010 President elect of the Society of Pediatric Pathology), and Dr. Martha Furie (2009-2010 President elect of the America Society for Investigative Pathology).
Members of our department serve as regional and national authorities in clinical and anatomic pathology, as innovators in graduate student, medical student, and resident education, and as national and international authorities in both basic and translational research. The department is both a basic science and clinical department and provides comprehensive service in all aspects of laboratory medicine, as well as in surgical pathology and cytopathology . Our dynamic faculty members are bridging the gap from bench to bedside research, with the goal of improving the effectiveness of clinical diagnosis and patient care for the citizens of New York and the broader community. The department has recently embarked on a period of expansion, which includes enhancement of our physical facilities, the acquisition of state of the art technology, the implementation of new initiatives in undergraduate and graduate education, and the development of new programs in clinical service and in research. Stony Brook University Medical Center is the premier medical research institution in Suffolk County and is a central component of Stony Brook University, one of the nation's leading public research universities.
The Medical Center is located on the grounds of the university's 1400 acrea main campus on Long Island's North Shore, about fifty miles east of New York City. The main campus is also home to nearly 24,000 students and encompasses an 8,300-seat stadium, sports complex and the Staller Center for performing arts.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions and thank you for visiting our site.
