"Summer Soiree" Benefits Pediatric MS
All Proceeds Go to Research at the National Pediatric MS Center at SBUMC
STONY BROOK, NY, June 3, 2009 – June 3, 2009 – The 4th Annual "Summer Soiree" presented by the National
summer soireePediatric MS (multiple sclerosis) Center at Stony Brook University Medical Center is an evening of music, dance and delectable dining to benefit pediatric research at the center. Live music performed by the popular "Big Shot", a Billy Joel tribute band, will highlight the event, which takes place at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, N.Y., on Wednesday, July 29.
The Summer Soiree will honor philanthropists Cynthia and George Marks of Brookville, N.Y. The Marks have been instrumental in supporting numerous causes through hospitals and non-profit organizations in the region.
"The National Pediatric MS Center at Stony Brook is thrilled to honor Cynthia and George Marks for their extraordinary generosity and commitment as devoted supporters of the Pediatric MS Center since its inception," says Lauren B. Krupp, M.D., Director of the Center.
A portion of the event proceeds will benefit the Team Adventure Camp Program, an annual summer camp program for teenagers with MS.
In addition to the "Big Shot" performance, there will be a buffet, dance music, and a silent auction. Dress is casual. Ticket price is $150 per person. Sponsorships are available.
The National Pediatric MS Center at SBUMC was established to advance the recognition, evaluation, and treatment of pediatric MS through the creation of a multidisciplinary program dedicated to clinical care and scientific research of children and adolescents with MS. The Center includes a multidisciplinary team of experts in MS, pediatric neurology, nursing psychiatry, and neuropsychology. Funded in part by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Center has been designated as a Center of Excellence by the Society.
