Sponsored by the American Dental Association (ADA), Give Kids a Smile is the centerpiece of National Children's Dental Health Month of February. The one day event is part of a national campaign to provide dental care and promote the importance of oral health to children despite their economic status.

Since the ADA began Give Kids a Smile in 2002, the program has grown enormously. In 2008, more than 480,000 children were treated, with events taking place in approximately 1,888 locations across the nation.

In addition to dental screening and cleaning, Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine students, residents, faculty, staff and dental health professionals from the Suffolk County Dental Society, will provide oral health education to children and their families. Other sites participating in the day will be St. Charles Hospital Dental Clinic in Port Jefferson (474-6797) and the Department of Dental Hygiene at Farmingdale State College in Farmingdale (420-2732).
