About the Program
About the Program
The lymphedema program at Stony Brook is staffed by physical therapists with specialized training in manual lymph drainage and lymphedema therapy. All of our therapists have completed advanced lymphedema certification training.
Family involvement is encouraged. Close communication between the patient, family, referring physician, and other members of the healthcare team is maintained throughout the course of therapy.
Goals of the Program
The goals of lymphedema therapy are to reduce the swelling of the affected body part, improve function and strength, reduce the chance of secondary complications, and provide education on managing the condition and preventing future recurrences.
