Health Literacy Course

Health Literacy Course Description

This program is designed to provide health care professionals with the skills necessary to provide patient education that meets the needs of older adults with varied levels of health literacy.  Plenary presentations will highlight clinical issues and research related to health literacy.  Seminars will focus on communication skills and the development of written health education materials.  Opportunities for interactive experiences in a simulated laboratory environment will be available.  At the end of this course participants will be able to teach health literacy to trainees and staff in their clinical settings.

Enrollees will prepare a lesson in health literacy for

their target audience.  Included will be objectives,

teaching strategies, and evaluations.                                             3 hrs

If you would like to enroll in the full 24 hour course and receive your Health Literacy Certificate, please complete and submit the health literacy application below. You must attend all three days and complete the homework assignment which equal 24 hours of credit to receive your certificate.  LIGEC Associates who take this course can count the hours earned towards the 40 hours required for the LIGEC Associates Program.  These credits can be applied towards Educational/Interdisciplinary required hours.
