During the fourth year of Medical School, students are permitted to arrange a maximum of two clinical electives at International Clinical sites. Typically, these are four week electives in which students performs a clinical rotation at a foreign medical school or supervised clinical sites. To receive elective credit, the student must arrange this elective with the approval of Dr. John D. Shanley, MD, MPH, the Associate Dean of International programs and Dr. Latha Chandran, the vice Dean of Undergraduate Medical Education. The student is required to contact Marilyn London, Ed.D. ,Assistant Dean for Medical Education to obtain the required Stony Brook School of Medicine waivers and contact the Stony Brook University Office of International Academic Programs (http://ws.cc.stonybrook.edu/studyabroad/) to complete the International Travel Policy paperwork (ITP) . Students must arrange for Medex, International Health and liability insurance (if required). Upon completing the elective students are required to complete the evaluation form for away elective programs and return the student evaluation form completed by their International supervisor.
