Requirements for Admissions and Starting Rotations

Final deadline for all applications will be February 15, 2012

• Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred.  Baccalaureate degree must be completed prior to the start of the Fall Semester.

• Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Verification Statement of Completion of Dietetic Program or Declaration of Intent to Complete Degree.

• Note:  the Graduate Record Examination is not required.

Note:  The Dietetic Internship Program at Stony Brook participates in the Dietetic Internship Centralized Application Services (DICAS), and  the computer matching process with D&D Digital.

Any student who has taken classes at a foreign university must have his/her foreign transcript evaluated.   Students can go to www.wes.org to get information.  A course-by-course evaluation is required; evaluation must show a GPA.

Applicants whose first or native language is not English must demonstrate proficiency prior to matriculation.  An applicant must present the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores.  Check the HSC Bulletin for required test scores, http://www.stonybrook.edu/hscstudents/bulletin/. 

All accepted students are required by New York State law to file a completed health history and physical examination with Student Health Services.  Titers and a recent PPD Tuberculosis Mantoux (for TB) are required.  Some rotation sites may have additional requirements. 

Background checks are required prior to the start of rotations.  A five-year history as a minimum is required.

Each intern is required to have his/her own form of transportation, as many rotations will be completed outside the Stony Brook University and Medical Center (SBUMC).  Not all interns will complete their inpatient rotation at SBUMC.
