History

The Cody family of Port Jefferson, New York, was blessed with three children but by the age of three, each child had been diagnosed with Autism. When the Cody children were born, there was very little support on Long Island for families facing the challenges of Autism and related developmental disabilities. As concerned individuals, the parents felt they needed to do something to help other families. Initially a dream and then a reality for this family, the Matt & Debra Cody Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities was created in 2001.

In October 2005, the Cody Center, was formally designated as a program under the jurisdiction of the State University of New York. Matt Cody’s vision of an “all-encompassing, multidisciplinary Center, from diagnosis to elder care, from education and research to clinical services and outreach” has come to life at the Cody Center.
