BCBA Courses

Course Schedule
The BCBA series provided through the Cody Center at Stony Brook University consists of five graduate courses, each comprised of 45 instructional hours.  Each course earns 3 graduate credits.  The courses are offered sequentially, one per semester.

Course Series
Principles of Behavior Analysis
This course will present the student with an introduction to the basic principles of behavior analysis.  Students will learn the definition and characteristics of applied behavior analysis as well as the fundamental principles, processes and concepts of behavior.  Registration for this course is dependent upon prior approval of the course instructor.

Effective and Ethical Service Provision
This course will provide the student with information to insure a high quality of practice in behavior analysis. Ethical considerations for behavior analysts will be presented.  Because part of providing ethical services is providing effective service, strategies for evaluating the efficacy of interventions will be presented here. Registration for the course is dependent upon prior approval of the course instructor.

Behavior Analytic Principles in Changing Behaviors
This course will present the student with information on the applications of behavior analytic principles in changing behavior.  Students will learn to select targets for change, to establish and strengthen behavior, and to weaken behavior.  Registration for the course is dependent upon prior approval of the course instructor.

Measurement of Behavior and Behavioral Assessment
This course will provide the student with the skills needed to observe, measure, and analyze behavior.  Students will learn the methods for obtaining descriptive data and the procedures for conducting functional assessments.  Registration for the course is dependent upon prior approval of the course instructor.

Evaluating Current Research in Behavior Analysis
This course will insure that the student can read and interpret behavior analytic research articles.  Taught through the use of current journals, students will be able to identify sources of up to date intervention information, as well as practice reading and evaluating research.  Registration for the course is dependent upon prior approval of the course instructor
