STONY BROOK, N.Y., February 6, 2008 - The organizers of the 2008 "Rising Stars" Talent Show - where children treated for cancer or blood disorders sing, dance, and display other talents - are looking for talented students, faculty, and others to join the children on stage. The show will take place on Sunday, April 27, starting at 2:00 pm at the Student Activity Center on the main campus of Stony Brook University.
Kids, doctors, nurses and other staff at Stony Brook University Medical Center who have participated in past "Rising Stars" shows have exhibited an array of talents, ranging from singing solos, to piano performances, instrumental ensembles, and Irish step-dancing. Magic acts, dancing and singing groups are particularly encouraged to join the fun on stage. Individuals wishing to take part should contact call Vicki Irwin at 631-444-2899.
Presented by and benefiting the Sunrise Fund, which raises awareness and money for the Pediatric Oncology Program at Stony Brook University Hospital, the talent show brings a sense of accomplishment to pediatric performers, as well as improves their self-esteem and confidence during a period in which they are trying to live life as normally as possible.
For more information, please call Vicki Irwin at 631-444-2899.
