NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED AUTISM ADVOCATE TO ADDRESS RESEARCH ON DISEASE CAUSE AT SBU CODY CENTER COMMUNITY LECTURE
STONY BROOK, N.Y., September 12, 2008 - The Cody Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities at Stony Brook University is presenting a Community Lecture by Eric London, M.D., a founder ofthe National Alliance for Autism Research (NAAR) an advocacy organization with the goal to stimulate biomedical research and scientific approaches to understanding and finding better treatments for autism spectrum disorders. The lecture will be held on Monday, September 22, starting at 7:00 pm, at the Wang Center on the SBU West Campus.
Dr. London, Director of Autism Treatment Research, New York State Autism Consortium, will address New York State's autism research initiatives and speak about current directions in autism research. New York State recently established the Autism Consortium to take advantage of the state's well-established science infrastructure to target research into causes and effective treatments for autistic disorders. The Cody Center is one of the collaborating centers in the Consortium.
Dr. London is a board-certified psychiatrist for 29 years and the father of a child with autism. In addition to being a founder of NAAR, which merged with Autism Speaks, Dr. London has authored dozens of journal articles on autism research and lectured widely on autism topics nationwide.
