Special Blood Drive
SPECIAL BLOOD DONATION DATES IN THE MEMORY OF BRYAN WAKEFIELD AT STONY BROOK UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER
Give the gift of love; donors can save others in Bryan's name
STONY BROOK, NY, July 16, 2008 - The family of Bryan Wakefield, in conjunction with Stony Brook University Medical Center, is hosting a special blood drive in Bryan's name during the month of July; 8:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. and main family date: Saturday, July 26 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Bryan's family knows the importance of blood donations for patients in need as their son received multiple transfusions from caring people like you! The family selected this date celebrating the Birthday of their beloved son Bryan and encourages donations so others in need of blood can be helped in his name. "Anyone who is able to donate blood, please do so," said the Wakefield family. "If others can be helped that's the greatest gift they can give in Bryan's honor."
To give blood, donors must be between the ages of 17 and 75, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health. Even people on blood pressure and cholesterol medication are eligible to give blood if their conditions are under control, as are diabetics that take insulin injections. Individuals can safely donate blood every 56 days, yet less than 2 percent of our population donates blood each year and most donate just once. All blood donor groups are urged to help.
For more information call Jennifer Peace at 444-7586; or to make an appointment, call 631-444-DONATE and mention that the donation is in the name of Bryan Wakefield. The Blood Bank is located on Level 5 (main level when you enter the hospital from the Visitors Parking Garage). All donors receive free parking validation.
