OUTCOMES

The ultimate measure of any medical advancement is how well it works and if it improves the life and health of the patient. In addition, it is also important tom compare results with similar institutions in the area and across the nation.  This is what the medical profession calls outcomes, and they tell the story of just how effective a program is.

At Stony Brook University Cancer Center, outcomes tell the story of patient success rates and the consistency and excellence of our processes.  We track our outcomes through our Cancer Services Dashboard and Cancer Services Balanced Scorecard.  Using input from the Cancer Committee, the Cancer Center Executive Leadership Council, our Multispecialty Cancer Teams, and other cancer services professional staff, data are collected on selected indicators and compared to national benchmarks. The Hospital also reviews national guidelines, such as those provided by the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, College of American Pathologists, and Commission on Cancer, and selects benchmarks for quality monitoring.
