Tumor Board meetings provide a valued forum for the exchange of information, consultation, and collaboration. A wide range of experts meet to exchange ideas and share insights on the best course of an individual patient’s treatment. Detailed patient cases—including diagnostic assessment, prognostic indicators, clinical and pathological staging, treatment planning, re-treatment, and review of outcomes—are presented to the board for group comment and discussion.
For participating residents, interns, fellows, and students, the Tumor Board is an excellent learning opportunity. For Stony Brook medical staff, the Tumor Board serves as a forum for collaboration and consultation. Regular participants include physicians representing diagnostic radiology, pathology, surgery, and medical oncology. Other attendees include staff from pulmonary medicine, dentistry, nursing, pain management, social work, pharmacy, nutrition, physical therapy, speech and hearing, cancer registry, and clinical trial research.
