Program Structure

The Administrative Fellowship is a two-year program under the preceptorship of Stony Brook University Hospital's Chief Executive Officer (COO).  During the first year, the Fellow gains exposure to the complexity of an Academic Medical Center through structured departmental rotations.

Core first-year rotations include:

  • Hospital Operations
  • Finance
  • Health Information Technology
  • Quality Improvement
  • Strategic Planning
  • Nursing
  • Human Resources
  • Practice Management
  • Support Services
  • Patient Relations


Within each department, a mentor is selected to assist the Fellow in identifying endeavors that will enhance the Fellow's educational experience and professional skill set.  Under the guidance of the COO, the Fellow also has the opportunity to select projects of interest that are also of value to the organization.


During the second year
, the Fellow takes on additional responsibilities and is involved in projects of greater scope and complexity.
