As a University Medical Center it is our duty and challenge to continually strive to develop
new medical techniques and find cures. The myriad discoveries made by Stony Brook University Medical Center's basic and clinical researchers have improved the quality of life and contributed to the knowledge of many Long Islanders.

| • | Lawrence Hurst, MD, Marie Badalamente, PhD, and Edward Wang, MD, Department of Orthopaedics, received the 2009 Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation/Kappa Delta Sorority/American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Clinical Research Award for their work involving the use of collagenase in the treatment of Dupuytren’s contracture (a disease where the fingers bend towards the palm and cannot be fully extended/straightened) and the use of collagenase for the treatment of frozen shoulder.
