SBUMC Pediatric Echocardiography Lab receives ICAEL accreditation designation
Approximately one of every 120 babies is born with a heart problem. Accurate diagnosis at a young age can help ensure that a child with a heart problem can live a long and healthy life.
The echocardiogram, a noninvasive test, has become one of the standard diagnostic tools in cardiology with an estimated 10 million performed annually in the United States. The interpretive and technical abilities of both the physician and sonographer determine the diagnostic accuracy of an echocardiographic examination.
The Pediatric Echocardiography Laboratory at Stony Brook University Medical Center (SBUMC) has been accredited by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL) for Pediatric Transthoracic and Fetal Echocardiography. This status signifies that the Pediatric Cardiology Service's Echocardiography Lab has been reviewed by an independent agency in recognition of Stony Brook's commitment to quality testing for the diagnosis of heart disease in children.
