Stony Brook University Medical Center has numerous protocols in place to diminish potential complications that can arise during hospital stays, in order to help ensure that patients in our care are kept as safe as possible.
Awards
| • | SBUMC received the prestigious Ellison Pierce Patient Safety Award from the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation for our exhibit “Maternal Hemorrhage: A Proactive Multidisciplinary Approach to Reduce Mortality and Morbidity.”  |

SBUMC was recognized for being in the top 10 Percentile for HANYS Pinnacle Awards (Safety Awards). Achievement Awards were received in 2008 for “Reducing Complications in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit by Optimizing Nutrition and Growth,” and for “Increasing Detection and Standardizing Care
for the Treatment of Severe Sepsis.” And in 2009, in the Unit or Division-Based category, Stony Brook University Medical Center received an award for its “Cardiac Care Unit High Reliability/Exemplary Clinical Unit,” program. |

SBUMC received the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council’s inaugural Excellence in Patient Safety Award, for our distinguished
achievement in decreasing sepsis mortality.  |

SBUMC received the 2008 Quality Award for Merit from the New York Presbyterian Healthcare System for a poster, submitted by our Sepsis Steering Committee, which highlights SBUMC efforts to decrease sepsis mortality. |

SBUMC was the recipient of the 2009 National Consensus Project Quality in Palliative Care Leadership Award. |
