SBUMC Room Service Ranks Best
Though a hospital stay is no vacation, there’s no reason why the food can’t be fresh and delicious. And, according to patient surveys, SBUMC’s room service now ranks best among Long Island and UHC Hospitals.
Several years ago SBUMC embarked on a hotel-like model for food service delivery. Today, its “Distinguished Dining” is a room service program that allows patients to order what they want, when they want it, in accordance with medical dietary orders. There are 17 different menus, a professional call center staffed with room service operators who take patient orders, and room service “ambassadors” who explain menu items and deliver food promptly. Food is prepared with the finest quality ingredients according to patients’ specifications and delivered fresh to the room within 45 minutes.
