Partner for Change Award for Going Green Initiatives

Given the unique waste challenges of the medical industry, healthcare centers need to be especially diligent about developing eco-smart ways to eliminate waste and reduce their impact on the environment.

For its commitment to a higher level of environmental responsibility, Stony Brook University Medical Center was honored with a “Partner for Change Award” from Practice Greenhealth. This award recognizes healthcare facilities that continuously improve and expand upon their mercury elimination, waste reduction, and pollution prevention programs, and is one of the organization’s seven Environmental Excellence Awards given each year to honor outstanding environmental achievements in the health care sector. 
 At a minimum, facilities applying for this award must be recycling 10 percent of their total waste, have a mercury elimination program in place with a plan for total elimination, and have developed other successful pollution prevention programs.
