American College of Surgeon's (ACS) Commission on Cancer (CoC) Outstanding Achievement Award
Many cancer patients in the New York area believe they have to travel to Manhattan in order to receive top-notch care. However, the Stony Brook University Medical Center has proven that Suffolk County residents have access to excellent cancer care right in their own backyard.
The Center’s efforts to be a world-class cancer care facility have been recognized by the American College of Surgeon's (ACS) Commission on Cancer. Over the past few years, the Stony Brook University Cancer Center has significantly advanced thanks to a new outpatient facility, continued growth of cancer clinical trials, and the expansion of evidence-based research and community outreach programs
Based on an on-site inspection and professional review of SBUMC's cancer program, the American College of Surgeon's (ACS) Commission on Cancer (CoC) presented its Outstanding Achievement Award to the Center, an award given to only 19 percent of the 478 programs surveyed nationwide.
